Job Description

Title : Chief Municipal Inspector

Locations : Morganville, NJ

Duration : Fulltime – Direct hire

Pay Range : $120,000 to $150,000/yearly + benefits

POSITION SUMMARY:

  • The Chief Municipal Inspector is a professional with 10–15 years of experience. This supervisory role is directly responsible for overseeing Project Management within the department. The Chief Inspector will manage the successful supervision and/or construction management of a variety of projects, including roads, underground utilities, public buildings, recreational facilities, and land use applications submitted by private developers. Water/wastewater experience is a plus.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate field inspection efforts for public infrastructure and private development projects to ensure compliance with design specifications, codes, regulations, and contract documents.
  • Manage projects across all client types, including municipal, school board, agency, and private.
  • Conduct site inspections to verify compliance with safety regulations, contract requirements, and quality standards.
  • Initiate projects and prepare proposals.
  • Oversee project planning, including staff assignments, tracking project progress (both long-term and daily activities), and coordinating with other departments and offices.

Communication:

  • Facilitate and encourage communication between design and inspection teams on a daily basis.
  • Provide updates on project progress to clients and their representatives.
  • Offer regular construction feedback to design teams and clients.
  • Prepare documentation for municipal scope changes and extraordinary circumstances.

Staff Management:

  • Supervise and mentor Senior Inspectors.
  • Guide Junior Inspectors in planning and development.
  • Implement staff development protocols, including training and certification programs.
  • Enforce company policies through Senior Inspectors.
  • Develop and implement a cohesive management structure for agency, construction management, water/wastewater, and municipal inspectors.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Strong responsiveness and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in inspection software and Microsoft Office Suite.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline (Engineering preferred) from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Minimum of 10 years of construction inspection experience, with at least 4 years in a supervisory or lead role.

CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES PREFERRED:

  • OSHA Certification.
  • Certifications such as NICET Level III/IV, ACI, ATSSA, or equivalent are strongly preferred.
