Job Description:
The Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for performing property inspections and enforcing local ordinances related to property maintenance, with a primary focus on tall grass and weed violations. The role involves fieldwork, documentation, and communication with property owners and residents to bring properties into compliance with applicable codes.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct inspections of new and existing structures for compliance with municipal property maintenance codes and ordinances.
• Focus on identifying and documenting tall grass, weed growth, and similar vegetation violations.
• Identify and report additional code violations as observed.
• Communicate with property owners, tenants, contractors, and the public to explain violations and outline corrective actions.
• Issue notifications and follow up to verify that violations have been corrected.
• Respond to complaints and service requests related to potential code violations.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, communications, and enforcement actions.
• Use digital tools (computer or tablet) to document and manage inspection data and reports.

Qualifications:
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Proficient in using a computer or tablet for recordkeeping and reporting.
• Ability to read, understand, and apply municipal code language.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with the public in a professional and respectful manner.
• Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of maintaining accurate documentation.
• Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for the role.
