Job Summary

Join our team as a Grinder Technician, where you will play a vital role in ensuring the quality and precision of our welded and machined assemblies. Your primary responsibilities will include performing finishing operations such as grinding, stamping, and sanding, with a strong emphasis on maintaining high standards of workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Precision Grinding: Utilize various grinding tools to smooth and break sharp edges of finished assemblies according to drawings, shop orders, and welder instructions.
  • Power Tool Operation: Operate large electric and air-powered grinders, as well as large belt grinders, to achieve desired finishes.
  • Quality Inspection: Conduct basic inspections of welded and machined parts and assemblies to ensure they meet quality standards.
  • Workstation Maintenance: Maintain a safe, clean, and organized grinding workstation, adhering to safety regulations and using proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Defect Reporting: Notify welders or supervisors of any defects observed during the course of work.
  • Time Reporting: Accurately report the time spent at each work center on corresponding shop orders.
  • Paperwork Management: Maintain and submit shop order paperwork to the shop supervisor upon completion of tasks.
  • Tool Management: Keep tools used for stainless steel and aluminum separate from those used on mild steel to prevent contamination.
  • Passivation: Perform passivation of completed stainless steel assemblies using citric acid passivator.
  • Cleaning: Clean assemblies of excess galvanizing to prepare surfaces for further finishing.
  • Forklift Operation: Operate the forklift as needed to transport materials and parts.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other grinding, sanding, or polishing duties as required.

Requirements

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision on assigned tasks.
  • Must have a strong focus on safety and quality.
  • Ability to use basic measuring & inspection tools such as measuring tapes, square, calipers, go / no go gauges & radius gauges.
  • Organizational, problem solving, and follow-through skills.
  • Basic ability to read mechanical (CAD) drawings.
  • Good mechanical aptitude.

Education and Experience

  • Completion of high school or equivalent
  • English communication ability both verbal and written
  • One year or more shop experience using multiple grinding and finishing tools

Physical Requirements

  • Required to wear PPE as needed
  • Close visual acuity with or without corrective lenses
  • This job is classified as “Safety Sensitive”
