Job Description

Our client, a leading provider of solid waste and recycling services, is looking for a Fleet Maintenance Manager to work in their facility in Brooklyn. The company mission has always been to provide customers with the highest quality waste, recycling and environmental services, while keeping focus on employees, customer and environmental safety.

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the Brooklyn Site Maintenance Shop and managing a team of technicians, welders and administrative personnel who are responsible for the preventive maintenance and repair of fleet equipment. Responsibilities include implementing and monitoring maintenance policies and procedures to ensure that all repairs and maintenance of equipment, including trucks, containers, and other heavy-duty equipment, are performed in compliance with the Company's safety and compliance standards, and in compliance with all federal and state regulations.

Monday-Friday, starting at 7am

Salary starts at $120,000, commensurate with experience

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide direction to technicians, welders, and administrative personnel to ensure that all repair/ maintenance work is performed in a safe, efficient, and timely manner, reallocating resources among sites as appropriate. Oversee coordination, planning & scheduling of all repair work to increase productivity, while effectively managing department's overtime.
  • Monitor the shops operational performance and efficiency and take action to redirect activities appropriately. Report to Leadership on shops' performance; implement procedures for process/programmatic changes for improvement or efficiencies.
  • Manage daily shop safety meetings; fleet walk-arounds; coaching and counseling of maintenance team personnel.
  • Make hiring decisions with Human Resources and appropriate management; oversee employee training and performance evaluations.
  • Maintain an on-going preventive maintenance program. Identify trends in road calls/ break downs; oversee maintenance of building and other facility needs on site; control maintenance costs relating to personnel, purchasing, inventory control.
  • Accountable for scheduled Quality Control Inspections, track issues and resolution to ensure all work is properly completed in accordance with Company safety and compliance procedures, and federal and state regulations.
  • Manage related administrative matters for team, including payroll, maintenance of employee records, records of all preventive and corrective maintenance performed, recording of all information into Maintenance Software, prepare and submit budget for approval, set departmental goals to align with company targets and performance objectives established by leadership.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • At-least-5-years-of experience as a Maintenance Manager or Maintenance Supervisor for a large fleet of vehicles
  • Experience in the solid waste industry greatly preferred
  • Knowledge of vehicle computer diagnostic tools and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking and root cause problem solving abilities
  • Ability to anticipate business needs and plan accordingly to ensure that equipment. employee and fiscal resources are utilized in the most efficient manner.
  • Ability to collaborate and encourage employee engagement through coaching and mentoring
  • Good financial management and planning skills; ability to understand financial terms, budgets, tables and reports. Ability to develop realistic, comprehensive plans to make efficient use of resources.
  • ASE/T Master certifications highly desirable
  • Advanced knowledge of engine chassis repair and maintenance; vehicle body control systems, including hydraulics and electrical systems ; heating and air conditioning systems to effectively diagnose and repair complex heating and cooling; welding tools to fix heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner to ensure equipment is back in an operable condition as quickly and as safely as possible.
  • Bilingual Spanish greatly preferred
