WEBINAR: Neuropsychological assessment of people with low or no education
Please note the registration deadline: 7th of June, 09:00 a.m.!
Tuesday, 11th of June 2024, 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. CET
online, via Zoom
Goal
To understand the changes in brain functioning with literacy attainment; to learn the challenges and pitfalls in traditional neuropsychological testing of illiterate and low-literate individuals; to identify appropriate methods of assessment of illiterate and low-literate individuals.
Seminar content
The seminar will provide an overview of the literature on cognition and illiteracy, including neuroimaging and cognitive studies, as well as research investigating the differential effects of literacy attainment vs level of education and schooling. Furthermore, we will discuss the inappropriateness of commonly used neuropsychological tests with illiterate and low-literate individuals when assessing various cognitive domains (episodic memory, working memory, verbal skills, and visuospatial perception). Finally, we will consider the implications of these findings for optimal and appropriate neuropsychological assessment of these individuals.
